Leopard geckos spend a decent amount of their time sleeping, especially during the day, and deserve places to feel comfortable and hidden in. The general consensus is a single leopard gecko should have at least 3 hiding places. One in the warm area of the enclosure, another in the cooler area, and the final hide should be turned into a "humid hide".

Leopard geckos are not supposed to stay in the temperature which is so low, and specifically, they need temperature gradient to stay healthy. This is known as a temperature gradient and helps them to properly regulate their body heat. There should be a hot side and a cool side to their tank. There should also be a basking spot that remains at the high ranges of both day and night temperatures. Ideally, the “cool” area of a leopard gecko’s enclosure should be between 23˚C-26˚C 24 hours a day. This “cool” area temperature is often simply the ambient temperatures required by these animals, the “warm” area should be between 28˚C – 32˚C. 2014-04-07 90 degrees is the sweet spot for leopard geckos' warm area, or "hot spot", while temperatures can slowly drop the farther your gecko walks across the enclosure. The cool side will ideally drop to at least 80 degrees, but slightly cooler doesn't hurt!

Nighttime temperatures should be the same as daytime temperatures. The hot side of their tank should be set at 85°-90° F while the cool side of their tank should be at around 75° F. Most leopard gecko keepers prefer to house their geckos in glass aquariums or terrariums, which are attractive and can help create a more varied temperature gradient. However, if you have trouble with your temperatures, wood and PVC enclosures insulate very well and are quite popular.

It is important to create a thermal gradient (or a warm and cool side) in the cage/enclosure. This can be done with an appropriate sized Zilla Heat Mat adhered to the bottom of the tank all the way to one side and proper lighting. Ideal temperatures Leopard Geckos range from 75-80°F on the cool side and 80-85°F on the warm side.
